Wooden spade head

Wooden spade head

Wooden object are not commonly found in Roman towns, as they need waterlogged conditions to survive. This spade head is made from oak. Although spades would have been a common tool examples of similar items are rare from Britain. It would have been hafted to a handle, and there is no sign that is was ever sheathed in iron, as some spades were.
