The second Exe Bridge foundation plate (obverse)

The second Exe Bridge foundation plate (obverse)

This silver plate was placed in the foundation stone of the second Exe bridge when construction began in 1770. The obverse side here includes the city crest. Sadly the initial works were swept away in a flood in 1772; this plate was evidently salvaged from the remnants of the bridge and kept as a curio.
