Excavation of a trench through the outer ditch of the Civil War defences

The trench shows the broad and relatively shallow form of the outer ditch discovered during excavation in Holloway Street in 1974. The archaeologist in the ditch is Bill Moss, nowadays a leading excavator in Quebec, Canada.
