Detail of the Buck Brothers’ view of Exeter from St Thomas

The Buck Brothers' views of Exeter, drawn in the 1730s, show the city towards the close of this flourishing period. They give an especially striking impression of the crowding of the old city, the busy activity on Exeter Quay, and the extent of cloth-drying racks in the fields around the city.
