The Iron Bridge

The Iron Bridge

Prior to the early 19th century any visitor to Exeter from north Devon faced a very steep climb up to North Gate before entering the city. The construction of the Iron Bridge across the Longbrook Valley between St David's Down and the city eventually resolved this problem. It was made in 1834-5 at the ironworks of Russell and Brown of Blaina, Monmouthshire.
