The new Post Office in Queen Street

The anonymous engraving shows the impressive new Post Office built by the local firm of Hooper's in 1849-50, with its grand Corinthian column above a rusticated ground floor. By the end of Victoria's reign the Post Office employed more than an hundred sorting clerks and telegraphists in Exeter.
