The interior of the Cathedral quire before Scott’s restoration

The view shows the late Stuart and Georgian furnishings so much disliked in the high Victorian period: box pews ('horse boxes'), the Georgian pulpit, flooring and setting of the High Altar. All were removed by George Gilbert Scott in his restoration of the cathedral between 1870-1877.
