Later developments at the Malthouse

These views were drawn by Piran Bishop of Exeter Archaeology as part of a survey of the Exeter Malthouse conducted for Whitbread Severn Inns. These three reconstruction drawings show the later 19th and 20th century developments at the Malthouse. The upper view shows the appearance of the building c. 1880 following extensive reconstructions involving the insertion of extra floors to make better use of the space. The middle view shows the group of buildings following the insertion of three new malting kilns around 1900; these are the structures with conical roofs at the centre of the building. Minor changes followed later in the 20th century; the lower view shows the appearance of the Malthouse when surveyed by Exeter Archaeology in 1995.
