Architect’s drawing of the new Dingle’s shop

Dingle’s Dept Store, 1949 design by Cyril A Farley (1888-1954) © Lucas, Roberts & Brown Architects. In the collection of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery, Exeter

Drawn by Cyril Farey in 1949, the watercolour drawing shows his proposed Dingle's building beside St Stephen's church. The design was intended to be modern, with a concrete canopy sheltering pedestrians and a brick front which would conform to the other new High Street frontages. The building still stands today on High Street.
