Plan of the Iron Age settlement in Southernhay

The plan shows the surviving evidence of an Iron Age farm in which a house would have stood within a circular enclosure. This was abandoned by the Roman period, when the banks and ditches of Roman fields cut across the earlier settlement.

The large curving ditch at the bottom of the drawing surrounded the Iron Age enclosure. The smaller curving trench within it marks the foundation trench of a round house.
