Neolithic axe fragment from Topsham

Neolithic axe fragment from Topsham

This broken butt end of a Neolithic ground axe of grey fawn mudstone was found by Mr Longley whilst working in his allotment at Butts Park, Topsham. Its form will have been similar to that of Neolithic polished axe from Waybrook Cottages, Alphington. The source of the stone has not been established, but is probably fairly local.

Acknowledgments: Mr Longley, 3 Exeter Road, Topsham
