Bronze Age Burial

Bronze Age Burial

Excavations between 1973-4 before the construction of the A30 uncovered a late Bronze Age ring ditch at Markham Lane, near Alphington. It was the remains of a bowl barrow which had been destroyed by centuries of ploughing. Two cremation clusters yielded calcined (burnt) fragments of human skull and long bones.

Sherds of undecorated pottery and three flints were also found.
