Elizabethan wall painting at St Nicholas Priory

Exeter provides a few examples of the decoration of Elizabethan interiors with wall paintings. This example from the reveal of a window in the hall of St Nicholas Priory is the most elaborate example.

The painting, painted in black and white plaster, dates to about 1580. It shows grotesques, cherubs playing horns, etc. possibly drawn with the use of stencils.
