Reconstructions of the corn mill at Cricklepit Mill

The views show the industrial area on the floodplain outside Exeter’s city walls. Man-made leats (water courses) run across the area. The view on the left shows the appearance of Cricklepit c. 1500. A single waterwheel drives the mill machinery on the upper leat.

The view to the right shows the developments of c. 1570. By this stage the mill had been extended, bridging over the leat, with a second building on the island between upper leat and middle leat.
