Badge of a West of England fireman

Badge of a West of England fireman

This arm-badge would have been stitched in the uniform of a fireman working for the West of England company in Exeter. It is of pressed bronze or brass and shows King Alfred, symbol of the company.

The date of these badges is not firmly known. They resemble the company’s early 19th-century fire-marks and are likely to belong to c.1820-50.
