Lottery ticket

Lotteries are not just a modern past time. In England they date back to the 1500s, and were held regularly until 1836. As many people could not afford the price of a whole ticket brokers sold shares in tickets. This share ticket is one sixteenth of a ticket for a draw in Exeter on 15th October 1806.
