A bell cast in the Exeter foundry c1620

This bell can be attributed with certainty to the Birdall foundry at Exeter, since the letters which make up the inscription were used on various bells signed by the Birdalls. The legend reads 'Sir Amies Bamfyl Knight.' Sir Amies Bamfylde rebuilt his family home at North Molton, north Devon in the early 17th century, and the bell may well come from there. It is still strapped to the headstock on which it would have been swung.
