A mould for casting the handle of a skillet

Skillets were pans with long handles, designed for cooking on an open fire. The flat upper surfaces of such handles were often ornamented and sometimes bore the name of the maker. This clay mould fragment (upper) bears in reverse the name .... ]N*BIRDALL, confirming that the site excavated was the Birdall foundry.
