St Matthew’s church

Back to Time Period
St Matthew’s church

St Matthew's was built in the years 1881-90 to serve the new working class suburb of Newtown. It was to be a grand undertaking, designed by R.M. Fulford, the leading local architect of his day.

As the naïve coloured drawing by E. Morris shows, its intended western tower remains incomplete.
