The early development of the Malthouse from the 1780s

These views were drawn by Piran Bishop of Exeter Archaeology as part of a survey of the Exeter Malthouse conducted for Whitbread Severn Inns. The upper view shows the Malthouse as first built as a brewery and cellar in 1789. The middle view shows its appearance following the addition of a Malthouse range in c. 1791; the malting kiln is the tower-like projection at the front. The bottom view shows rearrangements following the rebuilding of the kilns in the 1870s.
