The Exeter artist Peter Thursby, a fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and sometime President of the Royal West of England Academy, is one of the leading modern sculptors of South-West England. Millennium Optimism, a work in silver, marked the onset of a new millennium in 2000-1. It has been said that his sculptures 'embody a sense of power and strength while exploring the tension between vertical and horizontal axes.
