Pennies of Cnut and his sons struck at Exeter
Back to Time Period![Pennies of Cnut and his sons struck at Exeter](/includes/thumb/phpThumb.php?src=/images/objects/Saxon_Pennies_Cnut_sons_Exeter.jpg&w=500)
Following the high output of Aethelred’s reign, production declined during the reign of his successor Cnut (1016-35) and his sons Harthacnut and Harold I (1035-42). The top three rows of coins belong to the three main types of Cnut’s reign; those below were issued by his sons. The museum holds 29 coins of Cnut and eight of the rare issues of his sons.
