Plaster fragment from the basilica
Back to Time Period![Plaster fragment from the basilica](/includes/thumb/phpThumb.php?src=/images/objects/Roman_plaster_fragment_Exeter.jpg&w=500)
The walls of the basilica were brightly painted with rectangular panels imitating expensive marble slabs. Several thousand fragments of this plaster were recovered; the image shows the largest individual piece. It shows the junction of two adjacent panels, red to the left, yellow to the right, with the green-painted strip between them.
