Old Matford

Old Matford in Matford Lane was the suburban house of George Smith, the very wealthy Elizabethan merchant who rebuilt 229 High Street in the 1580s. The house was built in the period 1596-1603, replacing an older medieval one. The drawing is by Stockdale.
