The second Exe Bridge foundation plate (reverse)

The second Exe Bridge foundation plate (reverse)

This silver plate was placed in the foundation stone of the second Exe bridge when construction began in 1770. The reverse side with the mayor's name and date inscribed is seen here. Sadly the initial works were swept away in a flood in 1772; this plate was evidently salvaged from the remnants of the bridge and kept as a curio.
