Charles Fowler’s plan of the Lower Market

Charles Fowler’s plan of the Lower Market

The Lower Market was laid out behind Fore Street and South Street, roughly in the area of the modern Corn Exchange. Fowler's plan shows what a grand affair the Lower Market was, with its large aisled hall. It was also innovative in the use of cast iron and laminated wood.
