The Iron Age settlement in Southernhay

The Iron Age settlement in Southernhay

The view shows excavation in progress at the Iron Age site in Southernhay on a dry day during the wet winter of 2002-3. The site was discovered in the course of preparations for the Crown Courts building on the Southernhay car park. This revealed part of a circular enclosure whose ditch contained pottery of the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. This is the most substantial evidence for Iron Age settlement at Exeter.
