Coin of Nero found in Alphington Road (obverse)

This coin of the Emperor Nero (AD 54-68) was found beside the Plymouth Inn in Alphington Road in 1909. It is an as, the lowest denomination of early Roman coin found in Britain. The obverse (heads) shows Nero’s portrait with his imperial titles, the reverse the temple of Janus.
