A coin of Nero (reverse)
Back to Time PeriodThis coin of Nero, showing the reverse side, was found in the garden of No. 99 Beacon Lane in 1984. It is a silver tetradrachm of Nero struck in the year AD 64-5, when the Second Augustan legion was at Exeter. It is a puzzle because such coins did not routinely circulate in Britain but in the east Mediterranean. It is uncertain whether the coin is a collector’s loss of the recent past.
