The Pinhoe hoard of Bronze Age metalwork

This interesting hoard of broken bronze palstaves (axes) and bracelets was found by metal-detectorists at Pinhoe in 1999 and is on loan to our museum. It had been buried in a small pit; most of the finds had been disturbed by modern ploughing and were recovered from ploughsoil above the pit. Dating to the Middle Bronze Age (c. 1400-1200 BC), this is the first hoard in Devon in which palstaves have been found in association with bracelets.
