Back to Time Period![Body armour (lorica segmentata)](/includes/thumb/phpThumb.php?src=/images/objects/Body_armour_common_to_exeter_lorica_segmentata.jpg&w=500)
The legionary soldiers based at Exeter wore a type of body armour called lorica segmentata made from strips of iron, leather straps and copper alloy fittings. It was especially effective at protecting the soldier's shoulders.
The image shows a modern reconstruction of this type of armour.
